Hazardous Area Awareness - Online

Course overview

This course is suitable for anyone working in (or intending to work in) a hazardous area including operational and technical roles, and management and non-technical roles.

The course provides an overview of the legislative requirements for hazardous area installations; an introduction to explosion protected equipment, and how to interpret hazardous area classification drawings and equipment markings.

Hazardous areas are found across industries including, hydrocarbon, oil and gas, petroleum, transportation, processing, refining, storing and food processing where dusts are present, mining, pharmaceuticals and anywhere there is a risk of combustible dusts, gases and vapours.  


The course convers:

  • What is a hazardous area?
  • Area classifications
  • Zones for combustible dusts, gases and vapours
  • Hazardous area signage
  • Equipment selection, installation, and maintenance
  • Performing work in hazardous area
  • Safe Systems of Work

Upon completion, candidates will be awarded a certificate of completion in Hazardous Area Awareness.
